PRODUCTS

Oak is characterised by its strength, flexibility and durability. With a naturally warm character and reassuringly traditional look that still feels contemporary, oak is a timeless wood that doesn't go out of style. Colour tones range from grey-yellows to light and dark browns, and lend a light, natural ambiance to an interior design scheme.

Our Real Oak Veneers are made from only the most valuable, highest grades of real oak, not plastic or artificial materials that the term is sometimes associated with.

We use high quality real oak veneer which is made from 0.6mm slices cut directly from American white oak trees and is bonded to the oak bed frame to ensure consistency in the grain and colour. Real wood veneer takes it's pattern from the wood it is cut from ensuring a natural, warm and unique look.

It can be very wasteful and inefficient to use single sections of oak in the production of component parts, inlcuding but not limited to side rails, leg posts and top rails, which is why we use a manufacturing process called finger-jointing on sections of our furniture.

Being a natural hardwood, oak can vary greatly in tone from one piece to the next, and so sections crafted from pieces of finger-jointed solid oak can have some discrepancy in tone and grain across the surface. A high quality, real oak veneer is bonded over this solid oak foundation ensuring an even tonal match across the whole piece, therefore creating an overall more aesthetically pleasing and environmentally-friendly piece of furniture whilst maining the structural benefits and natural beauty of solid oak.

Our quality control team routinely inspect our component parts during the manufacturing process and will select any piece with an overall tonal match that doesn’t meet our tolerance. The real oak veneer will then be applied purely for aesthetic reasons.

In some cases we use high quality MDF panels only where it is the better material to use for a particular section (for example a large but relatively thin oak panel lacks supportive strength and may split over time) - full details are available on every product page wherever this is the case. These panels are finished with the same high-quality real oak veneer as detailed above, in order to perfectly compliment the finished product.

A finger joint is a way of securing multiple smaller pieces of wood into a longer or larger section. Similar to a dovetail joint in some respects, a correctly manufactured finger joint is as strong as, or in some cases even stronger than, an equivalent length of timber cut as a single section.

Using finger-jointed solid oak for certain parts of our furniture is more beneficial for environmental reasons as it creates less waste.

Finger Joint ExampleSections crafted from pieces of finger-jointed solid oak can have some discrepancy in tone and grain across the surface. For this reason a high quality, real oak veneer is bonded over this solid oak foundation ensuring an even tonal match across the whole piece.

All of our beds are supplied complete with independent Posture Sprung Wooden Slats which offer the best support for you and your mattress. These are simply seated into a wooden support bar via plastic slat caps, please see below for more details.

Each slat is 50mm in width and approximately 10mm thick, and the gap between each slat is 50mm, which is ideal for all mattress types.
While they are very flexible, by design, it is reassuring to know that 2-3 slats will support the entire weight of one adult.

Please note that our Ottoman bed frames have a metal support frame, with 53mm slats, and the gap between the slats is 71mm - which is suitable for the vast majority of mattresses.

Posture Sprung Wooden Slats have an advantage over traditional solid slat and mesh bases as they provide a more comfortable, mattress friendly sleeping area due to their upward-curve design.
When an individual lies on the bed, the slats act like a spring and flatten, returning to normal when the individual gets back off the bed.

In our 4ft size beds and above, there are 2 rows of Slats to allow independent support of each person using the bed.

Our Sprung Slats are manufactured from plywood, with a beech veneer for a high quality finish.

Posture Sprung Slats create a more comfortable sleeping surface for you, and help extend the lifetime of your mattress by alleviating part of the pressure undertaken by the springs, adjusting to your profile where the most pressure is exerted.
