A well-made wooden bed frame is designed to be with you for many years. With a little care, it will only become more beautiful over time.
Here’s our simple, no-fuss guide to looking after your bed so it can quietly look after you.
1. Everyday care for wooden bed frames
For regular care:
-
Dust with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to keep surfaces clean.
-
Avoid rough sponges or scourers that could scratch the wood.
-
Wipe up any spills gently and promptly.
For most finishes, a gentle wood-friendly cleaner used sparingly is all you’ll need. Always test products on a small, hidden area first.
2. Looking after painted finishes
If your bed has a painted or part-painted finish:
-
Use a soft cloth with mild, diluted soapy water for marks.
-
Avoid strong chemical cleaners or polishes that might dull the paint.
-
Don’t scrub at one small area too harshly – gentle circles usually work best.
Painted wood can pick up the odd mark over time; many people feel this adds to its lived-in charm.
3. Dealing with small marks and scratches
Life happens – especially in family homes. For light marks:
-
A soft furniture wax crayon in a similar tone can help disguise small surface scratches.
-
For minor dents, often a little gentle buffing and a touch-up product is enough.
If you ever have a more noticeable mark, our team is always happy to advise on the best next step for your specific finish.
4. Protecting your bed from damage
A few simple habits can help prevent problems:
-
Try not to drag the bed across the floor – lift carefully if you need to move it.
-
Avoid positioning very close to direct heat sources like radiators if possible.
-
Keep humidity at a comfortable level; very damp rooms aren’t ideal for any wooden furniture.
Using felt pads under bedside tables and other furniture can also help avoid knocks and scuffs.
5. Checking fixings and joints
Over time, especially with lots of movement, it’s normal for some fixings to need a gentle tighten.
We recommend:
-
Checking your bed’s bolts and fixings once or twice a year.
-
Tightening them carefully if you notice any movement or creaking.
A few minutes spent here can make a big difference to how solid and quiet your bed feels.
6. Cleaning around slats and under the bed
It’s easy to forget about under the mattress, but it’s worth a quick look now and then.
-
Lift the mattress and lightly vacuum slats and the inside of the frame to reduce dust.
-
If you have an ottoman or storage bed, make sure items inside are dry and clean.
This helps keep your sleep space fresher and can be especially helpful for allergy sufferers.
7. When to call us
If you ever notice something that doesn’t look quite right – a crack in the wood, unusual movement, or a fitting you’re unsure about – please get in touch.
We’d much rather talk it through early and give you peace of mind. As a family-run business, we care about what happens long after your bed has been delivered.
